Harry Potter, until the very end, thought that Snape never truly cared about him. That his cool protection was only for the sake of the promise to his mother and lacked any real tenderness. If only he could have seen how every single time he was in the Hospital Wing, how Snape would visit in the middle of the night, sit by his bed for hours, and brush long, cold fingers through his hair and whisper “I know it’s not fair…you’re so young and so pure, like her. I promise it’ll be okay. I’ll protect you….everything will be okay”. No one ever saw and by morning, he was gone
